What is knowing Christ?

Knowing Christ is similar to getting to know your close friend.  It is a personal relationship with God, the Creator and Sustainer of the Universe.  He is such a faithful companion, guide and mentor that He is called “a friend that sticks closer than a brother/sister” (Proverbs 18:24).  He will never leave you alone, never (Hebrews 13:5).

When can I get to know Christ?

Today!  And right now (2 Corinthians 6:2).  Jesus, the one and only Savior of mankind, is in a category of His own.  He is the ultimate “celebrity”, presidential, kingly and priestly ruler.  He holds more status than anyone, or anything.  Just as it takes special favor and recognition to rub shoulders with a celebrity, similarly it takes something unique to get to know Him; but wait!  The awesome thing about Him is that He is not so high-minded about His grandeur as to make you feel inadequate.  He will make His friendship available to you (John 6:4) and then He will ask something of you.  Read on!

Where can I get to know Christ?

No place is off limits with the Almighty God (Psalm 139:7-8, Hebrews 4:13).  Whether in the comfort of your home, restroom stall, church, jail cell, work, etc., God is waiting to claim you as a child and heir to His kingdom (Luke 12:7, Galatians 4:7).  He knew you before you were born (Psalm 139:13) and He has even known you before the creation of the world (Ephesians 1:4-5).  Basically, He already knows you.  You must be willing to decide to enter a relationship with Him.

How can I get to know Christ?

Faith is needed.  Just as you have the ability to flex your muscles; God has given you the ability to activate your faith.  The “action potential” of your faith is your decision.
Faith stands as the contractual agreement of something that you hope to obtain and it is proof that you have what you do not materially possess (Hebrews 11:1).  Having faith is exactly like having a promise that will not be broken.  The only condition is that you follow the plan of God.

Note that faith is not the same as blind faith.  Having a belief in Jesus Christ is illustrated by believing in the wind:

Everyone knows that the wind is a non-tangible, but it has many tangible qualities.  We cannot see it, but we can see the effects of it and the things it affects.  We can feel it at times, but not always.  We hear it as it makes its own noise, like a tornado.  We also hear it as it causes noises to be made, like air flowing through a car window at different speeds.  When the atmosphere is quiet and still, we do not believe that the wind ceases to exist, nor do we stop believing in the wind.

In a like manner, faith in Jesus is a non-tangible, yet tangible proof of His existence.  Believing in Jesus Christ is provable, yet it cannot be understood unless you have faith in Him.  The wonderful masterpiece of the earth we live on is proof of God’s existence.  The atmospheric bodies (sun, moon and other stars, planets, galaxies, etc.) are proof.  The functioning of your body (eyes, brain and nervous system, respiration, etc.) is proof.  Wonderful events and times of joy in your life are proof.  Your ability to bounce back from negative situations is proof.

Faith in Christ is imperative and the key to knowing Him.  Just as you get to know anyone else, you begin to know Him by spending time with Him in prayer, talking and listening.  Read his autobiography, the Bible, which contains life instructions for you.  To become even closer to Him, talk about Him with friends who are fellow Believers (Christians).
