What is your light producing—and how well are you tending the person carrying it? During our October Women's Bible Study, Fruit for the Soul: Tending the Light Within, we explored what it means to care for the whole person while allowing the Holy Spirit to shape what our lives produce.

Through Scripture, reflection, and practical application, we examined the spirit, soul, mind, emotions, will, and body and considered how each area affects our ability to live as the light of the world. Rather than pursuing perfection, the study challenged us to pursue progression—remaining connected to Christ, walking by the Spirit, and allowing His fruit to become increasingly evident in our lives.

Watch the Bible Study

Watch the October Women's Bible Study as we explore how tending the whole person, abiding in Christ, and walking by the Spirit help us cultivate lives that reflect His light and bear His fruit.

What Is Your Light Doing Right Now?

Jesus calls us to be the light of the world, but our light may not look the same in every season. Sometimes it feels bright and steady; other times it may feel dim, flickering, or more like a “fog light” helping us navigate what is immediately in front of us.

The study invited us to honestly consider the condition of our light—not as a judgment, but as an opportunity to recognize where we may need care, renewal, and greater connection with God.

Tend the Whole Person

Caring for our light requires tending the whole person. First Thessalonians 5:23 points to God's work of sanctifying us completely—spirit, soul, and body.

Spiritual growth is not simply about appearing strong on the outside while neglecting what is happening within us. God is concerned with every part of who we are. The goal is not perfection, but continued growth as we allow Him to reveal the areas that need attention and transformation.

Tending the Spirit, Soul, Mind, Emotions, Will & Body

Tending the whole person requires intentional reflection. Where are we spiritually connected to God? What is happening beneath the surface of our thoughts and emotions? Are our choices aligned with what God is asking of us? Are we caring for our physical bodies as part of our stewardship?

Rather than addressing only the symptoms we can see, the study encouraged us to “get to the root of it.” Honest reflection allows God to reveal what needs healing, renewal, surrender, or greater care so that transformation can occur from the inside out.

Tending the Light: Attend, Abide & Be Formed

Tending our light begins with paying attention to what is happening within us and remaining connected to Christ.

  • Attend. Notice what needs care. Honest reflection helps us recognize where we are flourishing and where something may need attention.

  • Abide. Stay connected to Jesus. Lasting fruit is not produced simply by trying harder; it grows from remaining connected to the source.

  • Be Formed. Allow God to shape us. Transformation requires openness to His correction, healing, renewal, and continued work in every area of our lives.

Belong: We Were Not Designed to Grow Alone

Growth also happens in community. God uses relationships, accountability, encouragement, and opportunities to serve to help shape us.

For ALOCS, this connects naturally to our SEEDS: Sisterhood, Evangelism, Education, Discipleship, and Service. These are not simply organizational words; they represent ways we can live, grow, serve, and bear fruit together.

Bear Fruit: What Is My Life Producing?

Ultimately, tending the light leads us to examine what our lives are producing. Galatians 5:22–23 describes the fruit of the Spirit—not as something we manufacture through sheer effort, but as evidence of a life increasingly shaped by the Spirit.

The better question is not simply, “Am I trying hard enough?” but “Am I walking by the Spirit and keeping in step with Him?”

As we remain connected to Christ and allow God to tend every part of us, His work should become increasingly visible in the way we live, love, respond, serve, and shine.

Reflection Questions

  1. Where is my light strong right now?

  2. Where does my light feel dim, strained, or neglected?

  3. Which area needs the most intentional care—my spirit, soul, mind, emotions, will, or body?

  4. What might God be inviting me to attend to rather than ignore?

  5. Am I abiding in Christ—or trying to produce fruit through my own effort?

  6. What is my life producing?

  7. What is one intentional step I can take to tend my light?

Final Thought

Tending our light is not about achieving perfection. It is about remaining connected to Christ and allowing God to continually form every part of who we are.

As we attend to what needs care, abide in Christ, allow ourselves to be formed, grow in community, and walk by the Spirit, the fruit of His work becomes visible in our lives.

We do not simply carry the light—we are called to live the light. Let your light continue to shine.
