June 4, 2026 | ALOCS Women's Bible Study

We are excited to share highlights from our first public Women's Bible Study hosted by Alpha Lambda Omega Christian Sorority, Inc. We welcomed women from various backgrounds and spent time studying Matthew 16:13-19, exploring what Jesus meant when He told Peter, "I will give you the keys of the Kingdom of Heaven."

Kingdom Authority Begins with Revelation

Our discussion began with Jesus asking His disciples a question that still challenges believers today:

"But who do you say I am?" (Matthew 16:15)

  • While many people had opinions about Jesus, Peter received divine revelation and declared that Jesus was the Messiah, the Son of the Living God. We discussed how Kingdom authority begins not with information, but with revelation. Information informs us, but revelation transforms us.

Chosen Before the Failure

One of the most powerful lessons from Peter's story is that Jesus gave Peter the keys before Peter denied Him.

Jesus knew Peter would fail. Jesus knew Peter would struggle. Jesus knew Peter would need restoration.

Yet He still chose him.

This reminded us that God's purpose is not dependent upon our perfection. Romans 11:29 reminds us that God's gifts and calling are irrevocable. Our failures do not cancel God's purpose for our lives.

What Do the Keys Represent?

  • A key creates access.

  • Keys open doors, remove barriers, unlock opportunities, and move us from one place to another. Jesus entrusted Peter with keys that would unlock access to the Gospel for people who previously seemed outside of God's covenant community.

The Three Doors Peter Opened

  1. The Jews (Acts 2)

Peter preached at Pentecost and approximately 3,000 people were saved.

Discussion Point: Sometimes our first assignment is with those closest to us, our family, friends, coworkers, and community.

  2. The Samaritans (Acts 8)

The Gospel crossed cultural and historical barriers.

Discussion Point: No one is too far gone for God. His Kingdom extends beyond our assumptions, prejudices, and limitations.

  3. The Gentiles (Acts 10)

Through Peter's encounter with Cornelius, God demonstrated that the Gospel was for everyone.

Discussion Point: God continues to challenge believers to expand their perspective and reach beyond their comfort zones.

K.E.Y.S. to Living Kingdom-Minded

We concluded by discussing four practical principles for Kingdom living:

K – Kingdom Minded: Seek God's priorities first. (Matthew 6:33)

E – Eternally Focused: View life through an eternal perspective. (2 Corinthians 4:18)

Y – Yielded to the Spirit: Allow the Holy Spirit to guide your decisions and direction. (Galatians 5:25)

S – Submitted to God: Trust and obey God's leading. (James 4:7)

Reflection Questions

As we closed our study, we reflected on several important questions:

  • Who are the "Jews" in your life, those closest to you who need to experience God's love through you?

  • Who are the "Samaritans" in your life, those you may have unintentionally written off?

  • Who are the "Gentiles" in your life, people outside your comfort zone that God may be calling you to reach?

  • What door is God asking you to open?

  • What key has God already placed in your hand?

Final Thought

The Kingdom was never meant to stop with Peter.

The same God who placed keys in Peter's hands continues to place keys in ours. Through our influence, relationships, gifts, and opportunities, we have the ability to unlock access to Jesus for others.

The question remains:

What door are you willing to unlock? 🔑
